How is the Subscription Paywall Changing?

We’ve updated the way the subscription paywall works to improve the experience for members and make it easier to change and update paywall content. Here's what's happened.

New paywall

The new, dynamic paywall has these key changes from the old one:

  • Clearer, more modern look.
  • Just one screen, one tap to enter the payment journey.
  • Content that can be updated without building and releasing a new version of your app.

The dynamic paywall is available to any member using iOS v3.55 or Android v3.56 of your app, along with web communities. Find out how to make changes to paywall content.

Single plan subscriptions

The dynamic paywall shows whenever a member who isn’t subscribed taps an area of your app that needs a subscription. It has these key areas which will generally display the same content on both your apps:

  1. Paywall heading
  2. Subscription benefits list
  3. Subscription selector
  4. Purchase button

Multi-plan subscriptions

If you want to use multi-plan subscriptions, register your interest.

Once setup for you, the dynamic paywall shows whenever a member who doesn't have the right plan taps an area of your app that needs that plan. It has these key areas which will generally display the same content on both your apps:

  1. Paywall heading
  2. Overall subscription benefits list
  3. Plan carousel including
    1. Plan name
    2. Plan icon
    3. Plan price
    4. Purchase button
    5. Plan description

Old paywall

This version of the paywall is what will be seen by your members until you have released a version of your app with the new paywall in it, and until your members upgrade to that version.

This paywall is a multi-step process, that is generally laid out like this.

1. Pop up screen:

2. Paywall and entry to purchase process
